DAMP PROOFING

Damp Proofing

Humidity opens the pores of plastered walls, allowing water to enter and flow through, causing rapid plaster rot. Acid pollution also destroys cement, which is a strong alkali.

Once the cement is gone, your plaster turns to sand and becomes hydrophilic, which means it attracts water. Damp proofing works as long-term prevention of moisture penetration.

Damp is a common problem, that most properties suffer from at some stage. If untreated, dampness can be extremely damaging to the structure and fabric of your office or home. If you are unsure what causes structural dampness, it is the presence of unwanted moisture in the structure of a building. Dampness is caused by either the result of penetration from outside or damp created within the property. Several terms cover damp which you may have heard; rising damp, condensation, plumbing leaks, external flooding or below ground damp.

When it comes to walls and foundations, damp proofing prevents water from passing through into interior spaces. If there is wood in the interior, damp proofing can also prevent the decay of the timber. A high percentage of damp problems in buildings is caused by penetrating damp and rising damp. More often than not, dampness is caused by defects or damage to a building like defective roof coverings and poorly installed or clogged gutters and downpipes.

At CleanCo Coatings we pride ourselves in being moisture identification and remediation experts who can expertly resolve any rising damp or other damp problems you may encounter – including the presence of condensation, musty odours and mould.

The type of damp must be correctly diagnosed as this will determine the appropriate specification to resolve the damp problem. Rising damp is often mistaken for other forms of damp, which means the wrong treatment is applied. By using one of our experienced assessors, you will be given the correct course of action to be undertaken based on the finding. Prevention is always better than cure, so speak to us today so we can help you rid yourself of unwater moisture problems.
